Larry Young Kershaw, of Sandy Utah passed away, June 25, 2014 at home, surrounded by his loving family after a brave, private battle with liver disease. He was born July 18, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Cyril Jay and Foncet Maxine Kershaw. He was the third of four children. Larry grew up in a loving home, among many activities in his youth he was involved in Golden Gloves Boxing and worked for Armitage Painting. He attended South High School. Shortly out of high school Larry married Sherry Hill; they had four children, Troy, Tad, Tiffany, and Tammy. Larry later married Janis Johnson in 1972. Larry and Janis have 4 children; Toby, Kasey, Shane and, Jannell. He proudly worked as a law enforcement officer for 34 years, retiring in 2000. Larry loved police work and received many awards for his service and commitment. After retirement from the SLPD, Larry continued his police work at Highland High School. He selflessly dedicated his time and council to the students and many friends at Highland. Despite his health issues he continued working through the end of this school year. His passions in life were his family, friends, his police work, helping students and his beloved truck. Larry was an avid BYU football fan and a dedicated runner. He was an AMAZING dad and grandpa and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren more than anything. He is survived by his wife Janis, children Toby (Natalie) Kershaw, Kasey (Dawn) Kershaw, Shane (Keila) Kershaw , Jannell (David) Webb, 17 grandchildren, his siblings Jay Kershaw, Maxine Barney and Lucille Burgess, many other family members, friends and neighbors who loved him. Never one to draw attention to himself or complain, Larry, kept his health condition very private, few knew of his health struggles, even those close to him. He loved and served as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He provided immeasurable loving support and service to family, friends and associates throughout his lifetime. He will continue to be loved and dearly missed by his family and all that knew him. Funeral Services will be held Monday June 30, 2014, 12 noon at the LDS Willow Canyon 1st ward, 9636 South 1700 East, Sandy, UT. Friends may call Sunday June 29th from 6:00-8:00pm and 1 hour prior to the service on Monday at the same address. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South following the service.
